The video shows <strong>military engineers from the Polish and German Armies collaborating on these tasks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"EASTERN SHIELD: Europas neue Verteidigungslinie an Polens Grenzen | Bundeswehr\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VP9cDgX8UuM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>In this Bundeswehr video, we can see this map with Poland's eastern borders marked in red.<\/strong> To the east, we see the border with Belarus, a country ruled by a Moscow-backed dictatorship, and to the northeast, we see the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, which was part of former East Prussia, a German territory annexed by the Soviets after World War II. <strong>Between these two borders lies the Suwalki Corridor, the border between Poland and Lithuania<\/strong>, a place of great strategic importance for NATO, since its occupation by Russia and Belarus could isolate the Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia), hindering their defense:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55475560657_faf26b542c_o.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55475560657_3556a7d0e5_z.jpg\" style=\"width:661px; height:auto; border:2px solid #7F7261;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bundeswehr has specified the types of barriers being constructed:<\/strong> anti-tank trenches, additional anti-tank barriers, and border fortifications. It has also indicated that in the event of a crisis, <strong>these measures are designed to delay a potential attack and give Polish and NATO-allied forces additional time to react and defend themselves<\/strong>. They are not intended to be an impassable line in the event of Russian military aggression.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sojusznicze wsparcie dla Tarczy Wsch\u00f3d\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IkLiLa3eVtk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Four weeks ago, the Polish Army General Staff released this video about these fortification tasks.<\/strong> At the beginning, we see a German officer explaining in Polish (a nice touch) that these tasks are part of a cooperative effort to reinforce NATO's eastern flank. <strong>The video ends with a scene of a German soldier and a Polish soldier shaking hands<\/strong>, the beautiful image that heads this article.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Tarcza Wsch\u00f3d przyspiesza\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Dnc0-tnDDUs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In this other video published on July 31, <strong>the Polish Army General Staff indicated that it already has 16 anti-tank obstacle storage locations<\/strong> (in the video we see thousands of concrete tetrapods or hedgehogs, like the ones you can see in the following image) <strong>and that the Polish Army Corps of Engineers will soon begin construction of seven more<\/strong>. These locations are receiving 1,000 tetrapods every day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55476966085_d2750d2f87_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55476966085_298757872e_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>By mid-October, Poland expects to have 300,000 of these concrete barriers in place<\/strong>, which will involve more than 10,000 transports between storage locations and the borders with Russia and Belarus. It's an immense logistical undertaking.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55475560647_acdd7835aa_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55475560647_fb9b9c8310_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Currently, these obstacles already cover about 100 kilometers of Poland's eastern borders<\/strong>, and the forecast for the end of the year is that more than 200 kilometers will be fortified. <strong>Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia are also building anti-tank barriers on their borders with Russia and Belarus.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2024\/08\/03\/the-military-obstacles-latvia-is-putting-up-to-stop-a-russian-invasion\/\">We saw the Latvian barriers here two years ago.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55476554911_52bc00fc88_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55476554911_de18e0b1a3_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course, an invasion cannot be stopped with physical barriers alone. <strong>NATO maintains a multinational military force deployed in the Baltic states and Poland<\/strong>, with the aim of acting as a deterrent and halting a potential invasion should it occur. Furthermore, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2025\/05\/23\/a-historic-german-army-parade-in-the-lithuanian-capital-the-first-since-wwii\/\">Germany has permanently deployed an armored brigade in Lithuania<\/a>, <strong>the Panzerbrigade 45 \"Litauen\" (PzBrig 45)<\/strong>.
