The Judiciary has once again put a stop to a government that acts by disregarding the Constitution and the laws for increasingly obvious purposes.<\/p>\n
Three months ago, Isabel Dur\u00e1n denounced in El Debate the so-called \"Grandchildren Law\" of Pedro S\u00e1nchez's government<\/a>, a crude trick to use the 2022 Democratic Memory Law to radically expand the electoral register to include the descendants of Spaniards who emigrated abroad in the 19th century<\/strong>. To achieve this, the government used a mere instruction from the Directorate General for Legal Security and Public Faith. This instruction broadened the effects of the aforementioned law against what had been approved by Congress<\/strong>, a clear illegality whose purpose was to considerably increase the electoral register.<\/p>\n Today the Supreme Court announced that it has granted the precautionary measures requested against the Grandchildren Law<\/a>, suspending the irregular registrations based on the aforementioned instruction<\/strong>, as stated by Marta Castro<\/a>, national legal coordinator of Vox, party that requested these precautionary measures.<\/p>\n This court decision is a major setback for Pedro S\u00e1nchez's government<\/strong>, as it exposes an opaque maneuver, carried out outside the law and designed to subvert what was established four years ago by Congress. The text of the precautionary measure approved by the Supreme Court, disseminated by Jorge Buxad\u00e9<\/a>, vice president of Vox, states that the electoral effects of those who obtained nationality under the aforementioned government instruction are suspended<\/strong>, meaning these individuals will not be able to vote. Those who obtained nationality in accordance with the provisions of the Democratic Memory Law will be able to vote.<\/p>\n Following the Supreme Court's decision, Pepa Mill\u00e1n, Vox's spokesperson in Congress, declared<\/a>: \"We have managed to stop Pedro S\u00e1nchez's objective of perpetrating a coup in the upcoming general elections through the falsification of the electoral register.<\/strong>\"<\/em> Vox was not the only party with representation in Congress to celebrate this judicial decision. The Popular Party has also stated<\/a>: \"We said it, we were attacked for it, and today it's confirmed<\/strong>.\"<\/em> The obvious question is: why didn't the PP legally challenge that instruction, as Vox did?<\/p>\n
