King Felipe VI of Spain presided over a ceremony honoring the victims of 9\/11 at Naval Station Rota<\/a> in C\u00e1diz, a joint military facility used by the Spanish Navy and the United States Armed Forces. <strong>The Royal Household has released this video of the event:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Conmemoraci\u00f3n del 25\u00ba aniversario de los ataques terroristas del 11-S de 2001\" width=\"665\" height=\"374\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2Z6itl46piE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>The event was attended by military personnel from both countries<\/strong>, representing the Spanish Navy, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Marine Corps, and the U.S. Air Force. <strong>It was also attended by the United States Ambassador to Spain, Benjamin Le\u00f3n<\/strong>, and Spanish civil authorities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55521071812_12f6c3d8fd_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55521071812_dcaea52ca6_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\"<strong>The ceremony began with the parade of the Honor Guard and the playing of the national anthems of Spain and the United States<\/strong>, followed by a flyover by Spanish Navy and US Navy aircraft,\"<\/em> the Royal Household noted. You can see those aircraft above: two Seahawk helicopters, an NH90, and an H135.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55522088676_eee3ce357f_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55522088676_799a6e2022_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Royal Household added: <em>\"<strong>Subsequently, the floral tribute took place<\/strong>, during which His Majesty the King and the United States Ambassador to Spain each placed a ribbon on the wreaths carried by representatives of the Fire Department and the United States Navy.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55522242694_f768c85808_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55522242694_6ff24f3e22_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\"<strong>The event also included a religious invocation, a commemorative reading regarding September 11<\/strong>, and remarks by the commander of U.S. Naval Activities in Spain and the U.S. Ambassador to Spain. The ceremony concluded with the 'Last Alarm,' the ringing of the bell, the benediction, and the playing of 'Taps,'\"<\/em> the Royal Household adds. Here, the American commander at Rota, Captain Charles A. Chmielak, is seen delivering remarks. Behind him stands <strong>one of the U.S. Navy fire trucks from the base<\/strong>, honoring the 415 New York emergency responders who lost their lives in the attack on the Twin Towers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55522088611_852aa2d5a9_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55522088611_7340480978_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.outono.net\/elentir\/2023\/06\/30\/the-only-annual-raising-of-the-united-states-flag-that-is-allowed-at-the-rota-naval-station\/\">Only one annual raising of the United States flag is authorized at Rota Naval Base<\/a>, as Spanish law stipulates that only the Spanish flag may fly at Spain's military bases. <strong>However, another exception was made today to authorize the raising of the US flag at half-staff<\/strong> in tribute to the victims of the 9\/11 terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55522193043_7a121858ec_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55522193043_9dc2b78927_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%; height:auto; border:0px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Royal Household has highlighted that <strong>this is the second time Don Felipe has participated in a commemorative event at the Rota Naval Base marking the 9\/11 attacks:<\/strong> <em>\"The then-Prince of Asturias attended a tribute held on September 16, 2001, also in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55521071807_44f929ebd5_o.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/55521071807_1fceb148df_z.jpg\" style=\"width:100%;
