When it rains, many people tend to say that the weather is bad. In reality, rain has many beneficial effects.<\/p>\n
To name just a few examples, rain waters our fields, causing crops to flourish<\/strong>. It also fills our reservoirs, ensuring that turning on the tap at home is no longer a problem caused by drought. In some cities, such as Vigo<\/strong>\u2014where there are now more dogs than children and young people, a truly sad state of affairs for any population\u2014rain helps clean the streets<\/strong>, ridding some of them of the stench of urine.<\/p>\n Yesterday, Spaniards discovered another beneficial effect of that gift the clouds occasionally bestow upon us: the first autumn rains have begun to prompt many illegal immigrants to leave Ceuta and return to Morocco<\/a>. Thus far, Pedro S\u00e1nchez\u2019s government has claimed credit for the return of many of the intruders<\/strong> who entered Spain illegally during the Moroccan migration invasion that began on July 30. However, forced returns have been few and far between.<\/strong> Two weeks ago, it was revealed that the government had expelled only 307 of them<\/a>\u2014a paltry figure, considering that the Interior Minister stated that 72,000 had entered<\/a>.<\/p>\n For the moment, we can say something very much in favor of that part of our precious water supply that reaches us from above on gray days: rain doesn't draw a public salary, doesn't live in a luxurious palace, nor does it fly in a Falcon jet<\/strong>; nor does it have at its disposal the vast army of advisors (all of them secret, since the government still refuses to make their names public) that La Moncloa keeps on the payroll at our expense\u2014yet for now, \"Sister Rain,\" as Saint Francis called it, has already done more for Ceuta than Pedro S\u00e1nchez has<\/strong>.<\/p>\n I don't usually ask things of the rain, but right now it would be great if, in addition to encouraging the return of the intruders who stormed Ceuta, it also managed to clear Madrid's Puerta del Sol of far-left layabouts<\/strong>\u2014those who believe they have the right to flout the rules strictly applied to everyone else<\/a> simply because they enjoy preferential treatment from the government. Still, even if they don't leave, we should be grateful to the rain that these people might finally come into contact with the most hygienic of elements<\/strong>. On days like this, the only thing missing is for the clouds to add a little soap to the transparent bounty they pour down.<\/p>\n ---<\/p>\n
