Watson even recorded a video with the evolution that traced that strange form:

It has to be said that it is not a mystery: these stelae were generated by a launch of the aerospace company SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, the founder of PayPal and Tesla Motors. Specifically, what you see in the image is a Falcon 9 Block 3 rocket. It was launched from the Spacial Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) of the Vandenberg Air Force Base, located on the coast of California. The rocket transported the fourth group of satellites of the Iridium NEXT constellation, whose purpose is to implement global mobile communications by land, sea and sky with a greater bandwidth, using a low Earth orbit and providing coverage over 100% of the terrestrial surface.
