The Spanish Navy is an important asset for NATO due to its naval, air, and amphibious deployment capabilities in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.
This capability is demonstrated by the deployments of the Expeditionary Combat Group "Dédalo", led by the L-61 aircraft carrier "Juan Carlos I". Its most recent deployment, and the second carried out this year by that group, took place from June 17 to July 7 and was recently shown by the Spanish Navy in a long series of excellent photos that we already saw here.
Battle group "Dédalo" first deployment in 2025 began on January 30 and concluded in mid-March. During this deployment, the group participated in Steadfast Dart 25, a NATO-organized exercise held in Bulgaria and Greece from February 10 to 21.
The Joint Allied Command Naples (NATO JFC Naples) published yesterday a large series of photos of the Spanish contribution to that exercise. You can see them here. Most of the photos were taken during the landing exercise carried out in Volos, Greece, by the Tercio de Armada (TEAR) and the LCM-1E landing craft of the Grupo Naval de Playa, with air support from 5 Harrier II Plus fighters from the 9th Squadron and 2 SH-60F Seahawk helicopters from the 5th Squadron.
