If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic movies, you've probably wondered what the ideal place would be to survive in that situation.
A hypermarket seems like the ideal place as long as the post-apocalyptic situation isn't caused by a nuclear war (if the mall is above ground, it would most likely be leveled) or any situation that causes general panic (hypermarkets would be the first places to be looted if social order disappears and people decide to go for "every man for himself").
It must be said that a hypermarket doesn't offer much protection against any threat, as those who have seen Frank Darabont's film "The Mist" (2007) will remember. The great advantage of such a place is that you could have all kinds of items, at least in an ideal situation and in a relatively prosperous country (in Venezuela you would find an image like the following).
Regarding this fascinating hypothesis, the YouTube channel "¿Y si?" recently published an interesting video that could serve as a guide for a modern Robinson Crusoe who found himself alone, without light or running water in a hypermarket. The video asks what that person would need to survive, how long the items in the hypermarket would last, and other important factors to take into account (tThe video is in Spanish, you can activate automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):
