Atenea, a new civil society initiative in defense of Spain and Freedom

For many years I have been defending the importance of civil society in the defense of Spain and freedom.

Political action is not the preserve of political parties, although they are undoubtedly very important tools for participation in public affairs and for opening up debates that the left had previously considered closed, as Vox has been demonstrating for 11 years. Beyond the parties, there must also be spaces for reflection and activism, spaces that the left has long occupied, but which have not been empty on the right.

In these two decades we have seen the importance of independent initiatives such as AVT, Hazte Oír, Fundación DENAES, Derecho a Vivir, Galicia Bilingüe, Voces contra el Terrorismo, Hablamos Español, Abogados Cristianos, NEOS, ACOM, the Centro Diego de Covarrubias and other social entities that have served to make important contributions to the public debate and mobilize Spaniards in defense of the victims of terrorism, the family, life, freedom of education, national unity, linguistic freedom and Christian values.

We need more civil society for our democracy to regenerate, to reach where political parties don't always reach, and to contribute ideas to a segment of society that disagrees with the impositions of the left and separatism.

Yesterday, a new civil society initiative was presented: Atenea, named after the Greek goddess of war and wisdom. A good way to summarize a call to action and reflection. This initiative is chaired by Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, former Vox MP whom I have the honor and pleasure of knowing personally for many years. It also has on its team some people I also appreciate, such as Guadalupe Sánchez, Francisco José Contreras, and Manuel Llamas. Atenea shares principles that I have been defending for 21 years at Contando Estrelas: the defense of the West, free trade, the right to property, equality before the law, and the unity of Spain. Therefore, I express my best wishes to Atenea and hope that it will contribute to fighting the battle of ideas at a time when the defense of Spain and freedom needs all the help possible on all fronts.
