Debunking falsehoods and myths about the destruction of the Library of Alexandria

For years, some films, documentaries, and authors have fueled myths about the destruction of the famous Library of Alexandria.

According to these myths, this legendary library, whose exact location is unknown and of which no archaeological remains have been found, would have concentrated all the wisdom of Antiquity and its destruction (attributed to Romans, Christians or Muslims, depending on the version) would have plunged the world into darkness and centuries of backwardness.

I've been reading history books for many years, and if I've learned anything, it's that historical facts don't always fit with certain simplistic and dramatized interpretations, especially the most remote events, since we don't have the same opportunities to obtain information about events from Antiquity or the Middle Ages as we do about events that occurred in the 20th century, for example. That's why the work of historians is so important, aimed at shedding light on what really happened.

Yesterday, Academia Play published an excellent video in which its founder, Javier Rubio Donzé, analyzes what we know about the Library of Alexandria, pointing out what it could have been like in reality, how its disappearance happened, and what this event really meant for human knowledge.
