The Brigade "Rey Alfonso XIII" II of the Legion (BRILEG) has once again been shrouded in mourning today due to a fatal accident at its base in Viator.
So far, the official channels of the Army and the Ministry of Defense have not yet published anything about this event, although the Army's Twitter account has already posted an icon with a black ribbon as a sign of mourning. According to Europa Press, at around 11:00 a.m. this morning, there was an explosion at the Command of the Maneuver and Firing Range (CMT) "Álvarez de Sotomayor", located next to the BRILEGE base in Viator (Almería). As a result of this explosion, one soldier has died and another has been injured.
The ABC newspaper reports that the injured soldier is in serious condition and adds: "Due to the great power of the explosion, some structures at the military base, such as walls, have been damaged. Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion and to ascertain the causes of the tragic event."
Abc adds that the first hypotheses point to "the detonation of an explosive device", possibly a grenade, although that newspaper notes that other sources speak of the possible deflagration of a gas boiler.
At 3:27 p.m., the National Association of Veterans of the Legion's War Band announced that the deceased soldier was Legionary Knight Daniel Ruiz Mateo, a former member of the War Band. La Voz de Almería reports that the deceased soldier was from Vícar (Almería). Abc reports that the mayor of that town has announced that he will decree two days of official mourning. From here I send my condolences and deepest sympathies to the family and comrades of the deceased soldier.
Give Lord eternal rest. Let perpetual light shine upon him. Rest in peace.
+ UPDATED 22:06h: At 19:36h, the Spanish Army has officially announced the death of Private Daniel Ruiz Mateo. He belonged to the CMT "Álvarez de Sotomayor" unit and died "as a result of an explosion." Honor demanded and they obeyed,
Duty required it and they complied with it;
With their blood the company was signed
With their efforts they made the country great.They were big and strong, because they were
Faithful to the oath they swore.
That's why they fought like brave men,
And they died like heroes.Dying for the country was his destiny,
Love Spain its eternal passion,
Serve in the Armies his vocation and fate.They did not want to serve another Flag,
They did not want to walk another path,
They didn't know how to live any other way.
