Register of objectors to abortion: a violation of Article 16 of the Spanish Constitution

I have been warning for years that normalizing a crime against the right to life would put other fundamental rights under threat.

That is precisely what is happening in Spain right now. After legalizing abortion, that is, the act of killing an innocent and defenseless human being at the beginning of its life, Pedro Sánchez's coalition government of socialists and communists intends to force regional governments to create registries of abortion conscientious objectors, in order to know in advance which doctors refuse to commit this atrocity. This is a measure that the Community of Madrid has rejected.

Following the violation of the right to life, the left is now threatening another fundamental right protected by the Constitution: freedom of thought and religion. And it is doing so with a measure clearly aimed at creating blacklists of doctors who wish to remain faithful to their Hippocratic Oath, which for many years has prohibited them from participating in atrocities such as abortion and euthanasia. After all, a doctor's mission is to save lives, not to kill the patient.

With this measure, the left clearly threatens Article 16 of the Spanish Constitution, whose first point states the following:

"Freedom of ideology, religion and worship of individuals and communities is guaranteed, with no other restriction on their expression than may be necessary to maintain public order as protected by law."

The second point of that article is incompatible with the creation of blacklists for reasons of ideology or beliefs, as its wording makes clear:

"No one may be compelled to make statements regarding his religion, beliefs or ideologies."

The left has not only legalized a crime against the most innocent and defenseless, a crime for which history will ultimately judge those who promoted it severely, but also intends to force doctors to perpetrate it, violating their ethical code and creating blacklists with which it could retaliate against those who refuse to participate in that crime.

I have been warning for many years that the legalization of abortion is pushing us as a society down a slippery slope that leads to the suppression of fundamental rights without which it is impossible to speak of the existence of a democracy. Thus, we defenders of life and democracy now have a new front to defend against the totalitarians, who are not content with the legal aberration of calling murder a "right," but also want to force our doctors to act as executioners.
