Today, the world is experiencing critical situations in which some organizations are absolutely useless.
One of these situations involves a country being hijacked by a drug cartel that establishes a dictatorship, violating human rights and perpetuating itself in power through electoral fraud and buying influence within and outside its borders through the profits of trafficking in toxic substances that seriously threaten the health of the population of other countries.
That is precisely what is happening in Venezuela, a country whose democracy was hijacked by a criminal gang with a socialist ideology that established a dictatorship. The founder of that authoritarian regime was Hugo Chávez and its current leader is Nicolás Maduro, head of the Cartel of the Suns, a criminal organization embedded within the ranks of that dictatorship and which has flooded the United States with the illegal trafficking of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and other drugs. To give you an idea, fentanyl use alone has killed more than 200,000 people in the US since 2023.
We are facing a drug trade with devastating effects on health, as well as on the future and stability of entire countries. The United States government has classified fentanyl as a chemical weapon being targeted against its own population, and it is certainly not wrong. The Venezuelan socialist dictatorship is profiting at the expense of the health and lives of many U.S. citizens.
Faced with this serious problem, organizations like the UN have once again demonstrated their complete ineffectiveness. Something that is predictable. Communist China has exerted great influence over the UN for years and, coincidentally, that dictatorship is the largest supplier of fentanyl circulating in illegal markets in the United States.
That is why the United States is taking military action against drug trafficking from the Venezuelan coast. What the United States is doing is trying to stop an illegal activity that seriously threatens its security, an activity with which the socialist regime of Nicolás Maduro and its accomplices have been enriching themselves for years. This week it was revealed that Donald Trump has received proposals to attack that narco-state, including with ground operations. That military intervention could be imminent.
Those who have not once condemned Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine and Hamas against Israel will surely now say that this US military intervention violates international law, as if defending oneself against an attempt by a dictatorship to poison and kill the population of one's country were comparable to the unprovoked attacks by Russia and Hamas against democratic countries, torturing, raping, and massacring civilians without the UN having approved even the slightest punishment against the aggressors.
What should the world do if a drug cartel hijacks a country and, from that base, poisons other countries? So far, we've seen the response from most of the world: do nothing. The dictator and drug trafficker Nicolás Maduro has taken advantage of the world's inaction to expand his criminal activity and threaten the health and stability of other countries. It's high time to put a stop to this, and there's no other way to do it than with a military intervention that deposes this criminal dictator. Millions of Venezuelans are impatiently awaiting his downfall.
