US President Donald Trump had the opportunity to show strength against Russia but has chosen weakness.

Trump grants Russia a victory it cannot achieve by force of arms

Today it has been confirmed that the Trump administration has proposed a 28-point "peace plan" to Ukraine which is actually a surrender plan to Russia, as it rewards Putin's dictatorship for invading Ukraine and committing all kinds of atrocities against the Ukrainian people who have been suffering all kinds of war crimes and crimes against humanity at the hands of the Russian invaders for almost four years.

As an example, the agreement would force Ukraine to reduce the size of its Armed Forces, prevent it from joining NATO, and compel it to take the word of a criminal like Putin, who has already violated all kinds of treaties. Furthermore, point 21 of the text states: "Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk to be recognized De-Facto as Russian, including by the United States." This would mean that even areas currently under Ukrainian control would fall into Russian hands. This is a betrayal of Ukraine by Trump and a shameful capitulation to Russia, which would be granted victory despite failing to achieve any of its objectives with this invasion through military force.

Trump is pressuring Ukraine to accept his plan and surrender

It has also come to light today that Trump is pressuring Ukraine by threatening to withdraw military and intelligence aid if it does not accept this forced capitulation. This is not the first time the current US president has aligned himself with the Kremlin's interests, but this is by far the biggest favor Trump has done for dictator Putin since arriving at the White House.

Zelensky appeals to the world for help: “Stay with Ukraine. Stay with our people”

The President of Ukraine has given a speech in which he acknowledges that it is "one of the most difficult moments in our history". Zelensky expressed the dilemma posed by this plan as follows: "Either the difficult 28 points, or an extremely hard winter – the hardest yet – and the dangers that follow. A life without freedom, without dignity, without justice. And that we trust someone who has already attacked us twice." In a video recorded in Kyiv on a dark and rainy day, the Ukrainian leader stated: "Yes, we are made of steel. But any metal, even the strongest, can give way. Remember this. Stay with Ukraine. Stay with our people". So far, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their support for Ukraine.

A similar infamy to the agreement that handed Czechoslovakia over to Hitler in 1938

This "peace plan" of Trump's, which appears to have been directly designed by Moscow, is an infamy similar to the agreement by which Chamberlain and Daladier handed Czechoslovakia over to Hitler in 1938 in exchange for a "peace" that only served to strengthen Nazi Germany, triggering World War II a year later with the German-Soviet invasion of Poland. Trump demonstrates that he has learned nothing from history and believes that he can appease bullies like Putin by giving them what they ask for, in the hope that they will comply and not invade any other country.

Trump has often spoken of "peace through strength," the strategy the United States has maintained for decades to confront the major criminals on the international stage. However, what the current US president has chosen is to display weakness toward Russia, a weakness that sends an encouraging message to all those willing to use violence to extract concessions from the United States. This weakness of Trump's, like that of Chamberlain and Daladier in 1938, is the most direct path to new conflicts, as it implies incentivizing thugs like Putin to invade other countries, after rewarding him for his aggression against Ukraine.

There will be no peace as long as the Russian invaders remain in Ukraine

Faced with this message of weakness, Europe must make its position very clear: any peace proposal must be based on respect for the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. It is intolerable to reward Russia for invading that country and torturing and murdering thousands of Ukrainian civilians, including children. There will only be lasting peace in Europe when all Russian invaders withdraw from Ukraine and Putin is overthrown. As long as this criminal remains at the helm of Russia, we Europeans must arm ourselves and prepare to resist Russian expansionism.

Giving in to a criminal like Putin is not achieving peace: it is making Europe less free and more insecure, and turning Ukraine into a slave of Moscow. With this peace plan, what is clear, once again, is that Trump is neither an ally nor a politician worthy of trust. This is something that America's allies and citizens should keep in mind for as long as that man remains in the White House.
