Tonight, US President Donald Trump suffered what appears to be another assassination attempt.
The incident occurred during a dinner with correspondents at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. "Chaos erupted at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner when gunshots were heard and President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump were rushed out of the Washington Hilton ballroom Saturday night," Fox News reported.
The gunshots can be heard in this video from FOX 5 New York, which was broadcasting the event live. Three shots are heard at 1:32:05 in the video (the video is embedded to start playing at that point), after which Secret Service agents burst into the room to evacuate the president and first lady:
At 3:32 a.m. CET, the FBI has reported: "The FBI Washington Field Office's National Capital Response Squad has responded to a shooting at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. The subject is in custody."
Three hours ago, Trump posted a video on Truth Social in which we see the shooter bursting into the Washington Hilton and firing several shots at officers in one of the security cordons protecting the event:

Three hours ago, Trump posted two photos on Truth Social (here and here) of the arrested shooter, whom we see on the ground in handcuffs, surrounded by Secret Service and FBI agents.
At 4:49 CET, from Washington DC, Spanish journalist David Alandate reported: "FBI Director Kash Patel tells us that Secret Service agents saved hundreds of lives in the room we were in, given the amount of ammunition and weaponry with which the attacker stormed the building."
At 6:10 a.m. CET, the Secret Service released a statement signed by its director, Sean M. Curran, saying: "Tonight we saw exactly what our brave men and women do each and every day to protect our protectees. It's not easy, and I will tell you that they performed admirably. We got to see what they do. And that individual, when he charged a checkpoint, was apprehended. It shows that our multi-layered protection works. And I'm grateful to our partners that help assist us with building these sites and protecting these sites."
At 6:13 a.m. CET, the Washington DC Police Department reported that a suspect is in custody and is believed to have acted alone. "Two firearms and multiple knives have been recovered. A Secret Service Uniformed Division officer was injured and transported with non-life threatening injuries."
Fox News has reported that the detainee is Cole Allen, 31, a resident of Torrance, California. The FBI has arrived at the detainee's home and established a perimeter around it, ensuring that no one enters or leaves and awaiting a court order to enter.
