The United States Army tested two ULTRA armed robotic vehicles in Morocco

The use of robotic vehicles in military forces is becoming increasingly widespread in the air, at sea, and also on land.

As you may recall, last July we featured the Overland AI ULTRA here, an autonomous robotic vehicle capable of reaching a speed of 56 km/h off-road, using high-performance movements, recognizing and avoiding obstacles, thanks to a SPARK system developed by Overland AI, which uses LiDAR cameras to detect terrain features using lasers.

Like unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the ULTRA is designed to operate in swarms. At the time, the manufacturer of this autonomous vehicle demonstrated its capabilities for transport missions. Today, Overland AI released a video showing tests conducted by the US Army with armed versions of the ULTRA during Exercise African Lion 2026, held in Morocco between April 20 and May 8.

The video shows the ULTRA performing three types of missions: deploying anti-vehicle smart munitions systems, providing weapon support with a machine gun, and clearing roads. The video notes that these tests were conducted by three U.S. Army units: the 173rd Airborne Brigade, the 7th Engineer Brigade, and the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion.

Here we see vehicle number 2 equipped with four XM204 smart anti-vehicle munition systems, two on each side. The XM204 was developed by Textron Systems. It uses acoustic, seismic, and radar sensors to detect vehicles and fire projectiles at their upper surfaces, where they are typically less protected.
