How much will it cost Spain for Pedro Sánchez to retain Yolanda Díaz's support until 2027?

Today marks three years since the last general elections, in which Pedro Sánchez's party, the PSOE, came in second.

After that defeat, and taking advantage of the fact that the People's Party won without an absolute majority, Sánchez spared no expense to buy the support of the separatist and far-left parties, in order to guarantee his reelection. It was then that he offered the scandalous amnesty to his separatist partners for the serious crimes committed during the 2017 coup attempt in Catalonia. Sánchez granted criminal privileges in exchange for the votes needed to remain in power, the biggest act of corruption in the entire history of democracy in Spain.

Three years after those elections, Sánchez's government is besieged by corruption scandals. If it was difficult before to obtain the support of its separatist and far-left allies, now it's even worse. With a year to go before the next elections, fear has considerably increased within the socialist ranks of being abandoned by their government partners, the far-left Sumar (the umpteenth electoral brand of the Communist Party of Spain, PCE), to avoid being tainted by the PSOE's corruption in the lead-up to the next election. That explains a news story today.

This morning, Pedro Sánchez announced the candidacy of Yolanda Díaz for the leadership of the International Labour Organization (ILO), one of those United Nations agencies that consume a huge amount of public money and that serves to allow activists of all kinds to lead a comfortable life once their political careers in their countries of origin have run their course. That candidacy will have serious problems getting off the ground, since Yolanda Díaz doesn't even speak English, the most widely used language in international relations and a common working language in UN agencies.

Si Yolanda Díaz lograse hacerse con al dirección de la OIT, su remuneración actual superaría los 350.000 euros, un buen aliciente personal para mantener su apoyo al gobierno de Sánchez y guardar silencio sobre sus escándalos de corrupción hasta que concluya esta legislatura. Así que ya sabéis lo que los españoles tendremos que pagar para que Sánchez siga en el poder y Yolanda Díaz siga callada, asegurándose un generoso sueldo para el día de mañana. Un silencio muy lucrativo.
