Yesterday, as every year on the fourth Saturday of November, Ukraine remembered the millions of victims of the Holodomor caused by Stalin.
Stalin tried to exterminate the Ukrainian people by starvation
The "Holodomor" (which means "famine" in Ukrainian) the genocide caused by Stalin's communist dictatorship against the Ukrainian people, whom the tyrant tried to exterminate by means of hunger. It is estimated that this genocide had between 3.9 and 6 million fatalities. Today it is a mass crime that the extreme left continues to deny, just as the National Socialists continue to deny the Holocaust perpetrated by Hitler's dictatorship.
The initiative voted in Congress to recognize the Holodomor as genocide
A few months ago, the Foreign Affairs Committee of Spanish Congress debated a non-law proposal by the PP to recognize the Holodomor as genocide by Spain. The text was approved with the only rejection being from Sánchez's communist partners, as can be seen in the video of the vote in the vote. The original text, presented by the PP in April, said the following in its first point:
"Reconocer el Holodomor 1932-1933 en Ucrania como un acto de genocidio perpetrado inhumana y cruelmente por el régimen comunista de Stalin contra el pueblo de Ucrania".
The PSOE tried to erase the word 'communist' from the text
The text was voted on May 14 and published on the 29th of that month in the Official Gazette of the Cortes Generales. It should be said that the PSOE published an amendment to the text that left the first point as follows:
"Recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide, inhumanly and cruelly perpetrated by the Soviet regime against the people of Ukraine, insofar as it was committed with the intention of annihilating a human collective by imposing living conditions aimed at causing its physical destruction."
Do you see any difference? Indeed, the PSOE amendment omitted the word "communist" and the mention of Stalin when referring to the regime that perpetrated this genocide, committed by Stalin's communist dictatorship. The PP accepted the PSOE amendment, but introduced the word "communist" in the final version of the text, in which the mention of Stalin does not appear. The PSOE's attempt to rewrite this text was as grotesque as wanting to suppress the word "nazi" or a mention of Hitler in a text about the Holocaust.
The socialists have already tried to prevent European condemnation of the crimes of communism
This was not the first time that something like this had happened. In 2019, when the European Parliament condemned the crimes of Nazism and Communism, the socialists proposed to remove any reference to communism from the resolution, in an attempt to clean up the image of this totalitarian movement that is an ally of the socialist parties in countries like Spain, where they are in fact government partners.
In 2021, the entire Spanish left voted against this European resolution
In March 2021, the Spanish socialists voted against this European condemnation in a vote in Congress, siding with their communist allies in denying the crimes of Marxist totalitarian regimes. This is the same left that gives lessons in "historical memory" and "democratic memory".
It is worth remembering that Vox supported this condemnation of the crimes of Nazism and Communism in 2021, and that in May 2024 this party also supported Spain's recognition of the Holodomor as genocide.
In 2010, the PSOE refused to introduce the Holodomor into the teaching plans
Vox MP Carlos Flores Juberías justified his party's support for recognising the Holodomor as genocide by pointing out that "when the soil of Ukraine is once again trodden by Russian boots, reiterating this recognition constitutes a gesture of solidarity." He also recalled that the PSOE rejected this recognition years ago. Specifically, in 2010, CiU called for this genocide to be taught in school books, an initiative that had the support of the PP and the PNV, but the PSOE and its far-left allies rejected the proposal.
As usual, the socialists justified their rejection with a lie, claiming that Congress had no authority to decide what content should be included in the school curriculum, something that the socialists themselves contradict every time they approve one of their ideological laws to impose their dogmas in schools. Curiously, both the text presented a few months ago by the PP and the PSOE amendment contemplate teaching the Holodomor in educational programs. Have these powers suddenly reappeared?
Not a single mention of the Holodomor in the communication channels of the Sánchez government
In addition, despite the approval of this text, there is no mention of the Ukrainian Holodomor in the Sánchez government's communication channels. It is as if this genocide had not existed for a government that, at the same time, falsely accuses Israel of "genocide" for defending itself against the brutal anti-Semitic massacre perpetrated by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023.
The media silence in Spain on these PSOE maneuvers
Finally, I cannot help but point out that despite the fact that the initiative I refer to in this article was approved in May, no Spanish media has published anything about the PSOE's attempt to remove the word "communist" from that text. In fact, very few media have echoed the approval of that initiative. Talking about the crimes of communism is something that does not seem to be to the liking of most of the Spanish media establishment.
