Spain is a country full of interesting places for those who like to explore abandoned places, with some spectacular routes.
One of them is in the Levante Almeriense region, in the east of the province of Almería, in the easternmost part of Andalusia. A few days ago, our friends from Aventuras Entresierras (a YouTube channel that I recommend you subscribe to if you are interested in these topics) went there, led by the intrepid quadruped Alfred.
This route begins in the ghost town of Marchalico Viñicas, in the municipality of Sorbas, which arose around a mining operation that began in Roman times and ceased in the early 1940s. The cessation of mining activity led to the abandonment of the town in the late 1960s. The route continues towards the mining area of Bédar, with several tunnels of different lengths and heights that our explorer friends explore in this fascinating video (it's in Spanish, you can activate automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):
You can see some screenshots from this video here. Here we see a panoramic view of the ghost town of Marchalico Viñicas:
One of the tunnels on the route, specifically the Tres Amigos mineral loading dock. It was a tunnel on the Bédar-Garrucha railway. You can find more information about this loading dock in a comprehensive article published by the El Faro de Bédar blog in October.
Below, the Servalico railway tunnel, also on the Bédar mining route. It is 200 metres long and was built between 1895 and 1896, according to El Faro de Bédar.
We end with an image of the intrepid Alfred entering another tunnel, smaller and more rustic, on this fascinating route. You can see more tunnels in this amazing video from Aventuras Entresierras.
