The rough landing of a UPS Boeing 747 in Taiwan due to a typhoon

Crosswind landings are common in aviation, but under certain conditions they can be very dangerous.

This week, Typhoon Podul passed through the Republic of China (Taiwan) leaving strong winds and torrential rains. This Wednesday, August 13, a UPS Boeing 747-8F cargo plane, N613UP, flying from Hong Kong to Taiwan had a rough landing at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.

The plane landed into a strong crosswind, performing the classic bank maneuver. However, once on the ground, the plane became unstable, scraping the ground with one of its starboard engines, causing quite a few sparks from the friction. The YouTube channel Suda Kana has published a video showing the landing:

Here you can see two screenshots from this video. In the first, we see the moment the plane becomes unstable, its port wing skimming the ground. Sparks appear to fly.

The plane then rocked and scraped the ground with its starboard wing, even more forcefully, creating a lot of friction:
