Yesterday, Argentina held its 2025 legislative elections to renew 127 of the 257 seats in its Chamber of Deputies.
Unexpectedly, the right-wing coalition led by Javier Milei, La Libertad Avanza, won a resounding victory with 40.84% of the votes compared to 24.5% for the leftist Peronists. The right-wing coalition has achieved something even more unexpected: defeating leftist Peronism in Buenos Aires, its main stronghold.
The victory of La Libertad Avanza is a well-deserved success and responds to a major economic change driven by Milei in Argentina. In the foreground, Milei's libertarian recipes are achieving a spectacular takeoff of the Argentine economy, an unprecedented fact in many years, after decades of economic ruin caused by the socialist recipes of Peronism.
Furthermore, Milei makes a brave speech on economics and politics, denouncing with absolute clarity the crime of abortion, rejecting socialism without complexes even in one of its greatest international promoters (the UN), supporting the State of Israel and acting firmly against the dictatorships of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua. During his presidency, and unlike what happened with left-wing Peronism, Milei has aligned Argentina with the West, becoming one of the main allies of the United States in South America and making his country a bastion in the fight for Freedom.
Of course, there are things that can be done better and mistakes that should be corrected, but for now Milei has already sent a message to other countries: it is possible to break out of the vicious circle of socialism, a toxic ideology that seeks to subject all wealth to the control of the State, an ideology that generates unemployment and misery and erodes democracy, as we already saw in Venezuela and as we are seeing now in Spain, with a coalition government of socialists and communists, headed by Pedro Sánchez, who is perpetrating the biggest attack on the rule of law in half a century in Spain.
In other countries, we should learn from Argentina's case. After many years of socialist ruin, Argentines have decided to choose freedom and prosperity through recipes that support the free market and reduce state intervention in the economy. Milei's recipes work. Socialist recipes don't, unless one is determined to live at the expense of others and cause the economic and moral ruin of one's country. Argentina is proof that there is hope even in the midst of a very desperate situation, such as the one that the Hispanic people experienced at the hands of Peronist socialism.
