Donald Trump's comments about Putin at Mar-a-Lago that are truly embarrassing

Donald Trump has heavily attacked his predecessor, Joe Biden, calling him "Sleepy Joe" in a clear reference to his signs of senility.

One has to wonder if the United States is now presided over by "Sleepy Don," because some of Trump's absurd gestures are starting to remind many of Biden. Yesterday we saw some examples during the joint press conference that Trump gave at Mar-a-Lago with the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, who couldn't help but smile at the nonsense uttered by his host regarding Russia.

Here you can see the full video of the press conference. At 20:03 in the video, in response to a question from a Reuters journalist about whether Trump and Putin discussed Russia's responsibility in rebuilding Ukraine, Trump said:

"They're going to be helping. Russia's going to be helping. Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed once. It sounds a little strange, but I was explaining to the president Putin was very generous in his feeling toward Ukraine succeeding, including supplying energy, electricity, and other things at very low prices."

Zelensky's face was priceless. The Ukrainian president reminded me of the Roman soldiers trying to stifle their laughter in the famous scene from "Life of Brian" where Pilate talks about his friend Biggus Dickus. It should be noted that April Fools' Day in the United States is April 1st, not December 28th as in Spain, so when Trump said that "Russia wants Ukraine to succeed," he meant it. He was referring to the same Russia that has been launching attacks on residential areas in Ukraine for years, as part of an invasion in which the Russians have committed countless atrocities against the Ukrainian people. The Russians even launched a massive attack against civilian targets on Christmas Day.

Trump also seems to genuinely believe that Putin is "very generous" with Ukraine, even mentioning the energy supply, while the Kremlin constantly attacks power plants in Ukraine in order to make the citizens of the invaded country freeze to death in the harsh winters of that region. Is that generosity?

In a press conference held a few hours earlier (you can see the video here), a journalist asked Trump: "President Trump, some are saying that the recent attacks in the past couple days on that Russia's stage against Ukraine shows that President Putin isn't serious about peace. What What is your reaction to that?" Trump replied:

"No, he's very serious. I think you know, I can say that I believe Ukraine has made some very strong attacks also. And I don't say that negatively. I think you probably have to. I don't say that negatively. You understand? I think he hasn't told me that, but there have been some explosions in various parts of Russia. And it looks to me like I don't know. I don't think it came from the Congo. I don't think it came from the United States of America. It possibly came from Ukraine, but I haven't asked that question".

Once again, Trump equates the invading country with the invaded country, while the invader systematically attacks civilian targets with no military or strategic value, something Ukraine does not do in its counterattacks against Russia. When asked about an attack on residential areas of Kyiv, Trump responds that Russia has also suffered attacks, as if Russia were just another victim of a war that someone started—perhaps the Congo? Russia is the invading country: that is the fact Trump seems to constantly forget.

I sincerely admire Zelensky's colossal patience with the current US president. Trump's attitude toward Putin is shameful and embarrassing. The current occupant of the White House seems determined to swallow all the lies the Russian dictator tells him. Seeing the president of the world's most powerful democracy allowing himself to be deceived by a dictator is lamentable. The Trump-Putin affair should concern not only the First Lady of the United States, but the entire free world, because the Russian dictator is exerting an increasingly dangerous influence in the White House, and we in the West will ultimately pay the price.
