Ten days of protests that are already closing in on the Islamist dictatorship

Protests in 110 cities across Iran, 32 people murdered, and media silence in the West

The Islamist dictatorship of Ali Khamenei is experiencing its most difficult hours. Protests in Iran, fueled by widespread discontent with the country's political and economic situation, are escalating. Yesterday, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) reported that this Tuesday, the tenth day of the uprising, the protests had already spread to 110 cities across the country, with 32 protesters killed by the Islamist regime's repressive apparatus.

The NCRI has stated that "the events of Tuesday signaled a shift in the balance of power on the streets. While security forces ramped up brutality in the capital, they were forced into a humiliating retreat in western provinces, abandoning positions to the people." The clearest example of this phenomenon occurred in the west of the country: the city of Abdanan, with nearly 24,000 inhabitants, has fallen under the control of protesters after the regime forces fled. The NCRI considers this "a historic development," noting that "regime forces fled the scene, allowing the people to take effective control of the streets." In Torbat-e Heydarieh (population 140,000), in the Khorasan Razavi province in the northwest of the country, regime forces, riding motorcycles (a mode of transport also often used by the repressive forces of the Venezuelan dictatorship to attack protesters), were forced to flee, followed by an angry crowd, as we can see in this video posted by @simayazaditv:

In some cities, the protests have taken a qualitative leap. This is the case in the country's capital: "In Tehran, the commercial heart of the city became the epicenter of fierce resistance. By Tuesday morning, the Grand Bazaar, usually a hub of trade, was described by witnesses as a “war zone.” The regime deployed massive resources to break the strike, including 20 buses of troops, plainclothes units, and water cannons stationed near the Alaeddin Passage. However, these measures failed to deter the merchants and youth," the NCRI noted yesterday in its report on these protests. The Islamist dictatorship is so desperate that, according to the NCRI, "the regime has resorted to blind violence and war crimes." Yesterday, regime forces attacked a hospital in Tehran: "Tear gas canisters were fired directly into the grounds of Sina Hospital near Hassanabad. Witnesses reported that the gas infiltrated the wards, endangering patients, medical staff, and visitors, and severely disrupting critical hospital operations." The NCRI also reports that "security forces fired tear gas into a crowded metro station in Tehran. Civilians, including women and children, were trapped in the enclosed underground space, suffering from the suffocating effects of the chemical agents." What's most astonishing is that this popular uprising is receiving very little coverage in Western media. Many outlets simply aren't reporting on the protests, even though social media is abuzz with videos like the ones we just saw. Once again, Twitter is filling the information vacuum left by many media outlets. What we see in these reports is that the situation is spiraling out of control for the regime.

The reasons for this information blackout could be several. On the one hand, there is a lack of contacts in Iran to be able to record what is happening beyond the official information from the dictatorship. There are also the political reasons that I already explained here. On the other hand, the great economic influence of Qatar in the West cannot be discounted, an Islamic country whose dictatorship supports the Iranian regime and which has considerable influence in influential Western media outlets.
