The tragic train accident in Adamuz, which occurred on January 18, resulted in the death of 45 people, including a soldier.

Captain Álvaro García Jiménez, a 32-year-old, was traveling on one of the trains involved in the Adamuz accident. He was accompanied by a female military medic stationed at the Legion barracks in Viator, who is currently in intensive care at the hospital.

Assigned to the 2nd Legion Tercio "Duque de Alba", based in Ceuta, Captain García Jiménez had returned from Iraq a few months ago, where he was deployed in Operation Support to Iraq against ISIS terrorists. This legionnaire was on the list of missing persons from the Adamuz accident and his body was located on Thursday.

This Friday, the funeral chapel with the coffin of Captain García Jiménez was set up in the "García Aldave" Barracks of the Legion in Ceuta, where the legionnaires have taken turns watching over his mortal remains until this Saturday morning.

Today, Lieutenant Colonel Javier Veiga, head of the 4th Bandera "Christ of Lepanto" of the Legion, said of his deceased comrade: "He was an extraordinary person. He was selfless, he was disciplined, but above all he was cheerful and incredibly generous, and that meant that all of us who worked around him were infected by that joy, and the memory will be indelible."

This morning, the "García Aldave" Barracks hosted a solemn farewell ceremony for the deceased Captain. The coffin bearing his body was carried on the shoulders of Legion officers, escorted by bareheaded legionnaires carrying their CETME C assault rifles with the barrels pointed downwards, as a sign of mourning. The Ministry of Defense has published these photos of the farewell ceremony.

With his coffin covered with the Spanish flag and before a cross with the Christ of the Good Death, protector of the Legion, Captain García Jiménez has received the homage of his comrades in arms, who after singing the most famous legionary song, "El novio de la muerte", have placed a wreath of flowers at his feet.

This afternoon, the local newspaper El Faro de Ceuta published this video of the moment at the funeral when the legionnaires sang "El novio de la muerte" in front of the coffin of their deceased comrade:
