Chuck Norris, a great pro-life advocate who staunchly defended unborn babies

Today we learned the sad news of the death of Chuck Norris, a famous American actor and martial arts expert.

Chuck has passed away in Hawaii at the age of 86. The news of his passing was announced by his family on his Instagram account, in a statement that reads as follows:

"It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace. To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family. He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives."

Chuck was well-known for years because of memes about him that still circulate online. He was a man with a great sense of humor, and he never minded those memes. Aside from his artistic career, Chuck was a Republican, a conservative, a Baptist Christian, and a staunch pro-life advocate, strongly defending unborn babies and contributing to anti-abortion campaigns. He expressed his opinions in many articles for the conservative publication WorldNetDaily, where he wrote his last article in February 2025.

In addition to being based on her religious beliefs, his defense of unborn babies was inspired by the United States Declaration of Independence, as she expressed in an article published on January 20, 2020. In that text, she lamented the enormous number of abortion victims in his country: "It is staggering to think that, since 1973, 61 million humans and Americans have lost their life in the womb due to being aborted or terminated by their parent.."

In that article, he reviewed arguments written by Dr. Dianne Irving, a biochemist and biologist and professor at Georgetown University, the Catholic University of America, and The Dominican House of Studies, on the scientific evidence of human life in the womb, but Churck also pointed out the legal and moral basis for the defense of human life from conception:

“Thomas Jefferson explained in the founding of our country that preserving human value and life was government's primary role: "The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legitimate object of good government."

It is the reason that Jefferson created and penned in his own hand the words in the Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. – That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, – That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government. …"

That enduring human value is echoed in the Hebrew Bible in Psalm 139:13-14: "For You, God, created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well."”

On October 26, 2008, Chuck wrote an article titled "I'm voting for those not yet born", in which he criticized the fact that opposition to abortion had become irrelevant to Conservatives in political contests. Chuck noted:

"Some people think after 35 years of ceaseless controversy since the Supreme Court's ruling in Roe v. Wade that abortion is an "old" issue better dropped. I do believe the economy is the issue in this election, but it's certainly not the only issue. We can't just be concerned about our finances. We must also be concerned about America's future, and those who occupy it. Our posterity matters. Their rights matter. And that includes their "unalienable Rights," with which have been "endowed by their Creator," and among them are the quintessential rights: "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Abortion is not about a woman's "right to choose." It is about a more fundamental "right to life," which is one of three specifically identified unalienable rights in the Declaration (and the Constitution through Article VII and the Bill of Rights). And it is a violation of government's primary purpose: to protect innocent life.

We can couch our action in terms like "abortion," "termination" or "a women's right to choose," but it's still the killing of an "inconvenient" human life. And it won't end there. As my friend and prolific author Randy Alcorn wrote, "Abortion has set us on a dangerous course. We may come to our senses and back away from the slippery slope. Or we may follow it to its inescapable conclusion – a society in which the powerful, for their self-interest, determine which human beings will live and which will die."

During his life, Chuck Norris inspired many with his mastery of martial arts. He was a man many considered a role model in the world of sports. With his passing, today we also say goodbye to a champion of life, a courageous man who supported a just cause that others sought to suppress, and who did so with the conviction that he was fulfilling one of the noblest missions a person can undertake: defending the weakest and most defenseless. Thank you for your defense of life, Chuck. Rest in peace.
