Yesterday we saw here some images of the multinational exercise Flintlock 2026, organized by the United States in Africa.
Yesterday's images showed an assault training exercise for special operations groups from several African countries (Guinea, Mauritania, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia) aboard the Spanish Navy's maritime action vessel "Furor" P-46. As in previous years, Spanish soldiers are also participating in this special operations exercise, organized by the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), which includes hundreds of participants from 30 countries.
The Spanish Army's Land Force (FUTER) have today published these three photos of the exercise, which includes the participation of the Special Operations Group "Tercio del Ampurdán" IV (GOE IV). It was created in 1987 from the merger of the former Special Operations Companies (COE) 41 and 42 and is based at the Alférez Rojas Navarrete Barracks in Rabasa, Alicante. It is one of the three Level 2 groups (using US terminology) of the Spanish Army's Special Operations Command (MOE), which also has a Level 1 unit: the Special Operations Unit (UOE), the Spanish equivalent of the US Army's Delta Force.
The FUTER has indicated that this exercise focuses on "border security training and combating illicit trafficking." In the last of these images, we see a GOE IV operator with a sniper rifle during this exercise.
Last Sunday, the U.S. Army released a series of photos of this exercise, showing images from the Flintlock 2026 live-fire exercise, which took place in Ivory Coast, with both day and night sessions. Below, we can see an image of the nighttime firing session under a splendid starry sky.
The images released by the U.S. Army include several excellent photos of the Spanish soldiers from GOE IV. These are the ones we see below. In these images, we see an observer and a sniper from GOE IV.
In the photos we see that the Spanish shooter is wearing Walker's Razor electronic ear protection with a small US flag (the flag comes from the factory with these ear protection devices).
The precision rifle used by the Spanish shooter is an Accuracy AXMC in .338 Lapua Magnum (8.6×70 mm) caliber, with a Schmidt & Bender 3-27x56 PM II High Power optic. This rifle has a range of approximately 1,500 meters.
