Fernando García Echegoyen's analysis of the MV Hondius cruise ship case

In the last few hours there has been a lot of talk in Spain about the MV Hondius cruise ship of Oceanwide Expeditions, flying the Dutch flag.

This ship has suffered a hantavirus outbreak on board. The ship is carrying 149 people, 14 of whom are Spanish nationals (13 passengers and one crew member). Yesterday, the Spanish Ministry of Health announced that it will receive the ship in the Canary Islands "in compliance with International Law and the humanitarian spirit."

Regarding Spain's legal obligation to accept this ship and matters related to the MV Hondius, Fernando García Echegoyen, a man with extensive experience in maritime issues (he has worked as a Maritime Average Commissioner, as a nautical expert, and as an employee and collaborator in various companies in the maritime sector), published a video a few hours ago commenting on this case on his YouTube channel (the video is in Spanish; you can activate automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):

In the video, García Echegoyen mentions that his appearance yesterday on the program "Horizonte," hosted by Iker Jiménez on the Cuatro channel, was scheduled. The veteran sailor states at the beginning of the video: "I was going to appear, but in the end they decided I shouldn't and they brought on people who apparently know more about these topics than I do," he says, laughing, before adding that "a series of silly things were said on the program that left me speechless."

I met García Echegoyen on Iker Jiménez's show "Cuarto Milenio," where the veteran sailor often appeared telling stories about ships. It was one of the most interesting segments of the program. I think it's a shame that they don't have true experts on these topics when it comes to talking about ships.
