The socialist reaction to court convictions and the mafia mentality

However, there are some people, and also some political parties, who seem not to understand something so basic. Proof of this is what happened today. The Badajoz Provincial Court has sentenced eleven people for a case of nepotism in the Provincial Council, controlled by the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), the party of Pedro Sánchez.

One of those convicted is David Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, brother of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and a beneficiary of this favoritism, which consisted of creating a position tailored to his profile in the Badajoz Provincial Council. All the convictions are for administrative misconduct and impose a nine-year disqualification from public office. In the case of Miguel Ángel Gallardo, a PSOE leader and former president of the Badajoz Provincial Council, this disqualification is increased to 18 years after he was convicted of two offenses.

Up until now, we have been witnessing an intolerable campaign of pressure from the government and the PSOE against the judges investigating the corruption scandals affecting the Socialists. This campaign has reached its peak today, with the government and the PSOE accusing the judges of waging "a witch hunt against the president" and of following "a strategy to undermine the government." It is a purely indecent attitude that basically consists of fueling a conspiracy theory to discredit the Justice system for not making exceptions for socialists when prosecuting political corruption and even insinuating that the judges are perpetrating a coup d'état, as the socialist minister Óscar Puente has done today, in an infamous message that should be one more reason for his immediate dismissal.

When accusations as serious as they are false are made by political power against judges, with the aim of discrediting the Justice system and pressuring it to bend to the demands of the government, what we are witnessing is no longer the normal action of a government in a democratic country, but an authoritarian drift of a political caste that believes its power has no limits and that it is above the law.

It's curious to recall now that when court rulings targeted members of the Popular Party, the guilty parties, according to the Socialist Party (PSOE), were those convicted, and the justice system served to demonstrate serious crimes committed by their political rivals. Now that court rulings penalize crimes committed by socialists, the guilty parties are the judges for not turning a blind eye. That's the idea of ​​justice, democracy, and equality that the PSOE is promoting.

What Spanish socialism is doing is very reminiscent of the mafia mentality, which reacted to the actions of the justice system by threatening judges and turning their work into a risky activity. Socialism has become a threat to democracy in Spain, and its reactions today are the clearest proof of this. It is no longer enough for the socialists to pit Spaniards against each other for electoral purposes: now, they also want to enjoy absolute impunity and be treated as privileged individuals, threatening civil conflict if their demands are not met.
