The wise words of two Jews who support Spain against the Moroccan invasion of Ceuta

As I explained here yesterday, some Israeli citizens, including the country's ambassador to the UN, have used the invasion of Ceuta not to attack its cause, which is the anti-Israeli and antisemitic government of Pedro Sánchez, but rather Spain, a country where millions of people live who support Israel and consider it a great bulwark of the West in the fight against Islamist totalitarianism. Obviously, among Israelis and Jews there are good people and also stupid people, just as among Spaniards and Catholics. It wouldn't seem rational or fair to me to use the stupid things said by one Spaniard or one Catholic to attack all Spaniards or all Catholics. That perverse generalization is what some people constantly make with Israel and with Jews.

Today I'm sharing tweets from two Jewish people who support Spain, which I think can help us understand that the opinions of one Jew or one Israeli don't represent everyone. One of them is Matias Mizrahi, a Sephardic Jew living in Spain whose family comes from Morocco, where there was once a large Jewish community. Yesterday he posted the following message:

I could troll the Spanish government with "Free Ceuta" or treat it as a "colonialist" Spanish enclave in Africa, but the reality is that:

1. Ceuta and Melilla are integral territories of the Spanish State, and the Moroccan claim to those lands has no legal, moral, or philosophical basis.

2. The same forces that attack Israel as a Western colonial enclave are the ones that will begin attacking Spain with the same headlines, because the efforts of these anti-Western groups begin in Israel but do not end there.

3. My family comes from Morocco, a place that was a refuge for Jews during World War II thanks to Sultan Mohammed V, who defended my family against the Vichy regime. But after the creation of Israel, the persecution of Jews spread throughout the territory. At that time, Ceuta and Melilla were the enclaves that helped Jews escape the region. My grandfather managed to escape through them to France, and the rest of my family to Israel. Eternal gratitude to those enclaves for saving thousands of Jewish lives.

4. I live in Spain, and this situation is very complex and serious, as you can see from the European Union's reaction. The Spanish government needs to get its act together on this issue, but they are more concerned with regularizing immigrants than with closing the borders.

Secondly, I'm sharing two messages from Yaroslav Mar, an Israeli Zionist Jew of Russian origin and a Hispanist who lives in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, and who is a native speaker of Russian and Spanish. In the last few hours, he has written several messages supporting Spain and bringing rationality where others are driven by irrationality. This is one of his messages in Spanish:

Some will say that being both a Hispanist and a Zionist is a contradiction. There is a lot of anti-Israel sentiment in Spain, and I won't deny that there is also a lot of anti-Spanish sentiment in Israel, but history is for the historians. Today, Spain and Israel are on the front lines of defense of Western civilization against jihadism.

Soon, the traitor Sánchez will be gone, and we will establish a strong alliance between our two great countries.

Ceuta and Melilla have been part of Spain for centuries. They are no more a colony of Spain than Jerusalem is a colony of Israel.
