Russian terrorist attack on Kyiv, damaging a children's hospital, homes and a school

Vladimir Putin's dictatorship continues to commit war crimes in its invasion of Ukraine, systematically attacking civilian targets.

Tonight, Russia launched ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and attack drones against Kyiv. The city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, and the Kyiv Military Administration (KMVA) have indicated that among the damaged buildings are a children's hospital, residential buildings, and a school in the Darnytskyi, Svyatoshynskyi, and Solomyanskyi districts. At 2:29 a.m., the KMVA reported: "Sadly, 5 people have died as a result of the attack. Another 23 people were injured."

Due to this new attack launched by Russia against civilian targets in Ukraine, and following the precedents of other Russian attacks that ended up affecting allied countries, at 3:08 CET the Polish Armed Forces Operations Command announced that it activated its air defenses.

Since the beginning of this illegal and unprovoked invasion, Russia has been launching systematic and indiscriminate attacks against the civilian population, using missiles, bombs, drones and artillery shells against residential buildings, houses, hospitals, schools, temples, universities, museums, theaters and other buildings with no military value.

Russia's sole purpose with these attacks is to exterminate Ukrainians and sow terror among the population of the invaded country, criminal practices that are quite reminiscent of the bombings ordered by Adolf Hitler against Warsaw, Antwerp, London and other cities at the beginning of World War II.

The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court identifies as war crimes, among others, the act of "intentionally directing attacks against the civilian population as such or against civilians not directly participating in hostilities", as well as "intentionally directing attacks against civilian objects, that is, objects that are not military objectives". Russia has been committing these war crimes since the first day of this invasion, and despite this, it continues to hold a permanent seat with veto power on the United Nations Security Council.

Russia is governed by a terrorist regime bent on indiscriminately murdering Ukrainian civilians, including children and babies, and the silence of many on this matter is astounding. What the Kremlin demonstrates with its criminal practices is that Ukraine has become the first line of defense of Western civilization against barbarism on European soil, a barbarism embodied by the dictatorship of Vladimir Putin, a tyrant who is dragging his country back to the dark days of the Soviet communist dictatorship. Free countries have a moral obligation to help Ukraine defend itself, by sending aid and also by imposing on Russia all the necessary sanctions to force it to cease this invasion and completely withdraw from Ukrainian territory.
