The left's collective betrayal against Ceuta in the European Parliament

This Thursday, the European Parliament approved a significant resolution regarding the Moroccan migratory invasion of Ceuta.

The text approved by the European Parliament can be read here (PDF). The document quantifies this migratory influx, noting that "between 29 and 31 July 2026, approximately 80 000 migrants crossed irregularly into Ceuta from Morocco, by land and sea, and several hundred crossed into Melilla; whereas at least 141 people died during the crossing; whereas up to 11 000 irregular migrants refused to return to Morocco and remain in Ceuta; whereas the exact number of deaths and crossings and the identities of those remaining are still unknown." Furthermore, the European Parliament "pays tribute to and expresses full support for the people of Ceuta and Melilla" and affirms that "Ceuta and Melilla are Spanish and European cities whose sovereignty and territorial integrity are beyond question," adding:

"Condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the mass illegal crossings into Ceuta from Morocco, by land and by sea, and the instrumentalisation of irregular migration as a tool of hybrid warfare against the territorial integrity of a Member State; considers it of the utmost priority to strengthen the protection of the EU’s external land and maritime borders in Ceuta".

The text represents a clear setback not only for Morocco but also—and doubly so—for Pedro Sánchez’s government. First, because of what the resolution points out:

"Calls on the Spanish Government to urgently deploy all necessary measures to restore normality in Ceuta, including adequate security and economic support for affected businesses, workers and residents."

Furthermore, it adds criticism of the mass regularization drive promoted by the Sánchez government, which has been one of the incentives for this invasion:

"Expresses serious concern at the large-scale regularisation policy pursued by the Government of President Pedro Sánchez, which acts as a pull factor and sends the wrong signal to potential migrants and criminal smuggling networks; stresses that illegal entry must never become a shortcut to legal residence."

The resolution was adopted with 339 votes in favor, 225 against, and 16 abstentions. The European Left—including the Spanish Left—voted en bloc against it, openly betraying the Spanish city of Ceuta at such a difficult time and acting, once again, as a mouthpiece for the Kingdom of Morocco in Brussels, in yet another display of subservience to Rabat.

• Partido Popular (PP): in favor, menos Nicolás Pascual de la Parte, que no ha votado.
• Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE): against, menos tres eurodiputados que no han votado: Jonás Fernández, Nicolás González Casares y Lina Gálvez.
• Vox: in favor.
• Podemos: en contra.
• Grupo de Conservadores y Reformistas Europeos (ECR: Nora Junco y Diego Solier): in favor. Son antiguos eurodiputados de SALF.
• Se acabó la fiesta (SALF): in favor.
• Sumar: against.
• Bloque Nacionalista Galego (BNG): against.
• Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC): against.
• Compromís: against.
• EH Bildu: against.
• Partido Nacionalista Vasco (PNV): against.

I hope the citizens of Ceuta remember these results the next time there is an election. Betraying that Spanish city in the midst of a Moroccan invasion cannot go unpunished.
