Sánchez lies even about the results of the last elections: he claims he won them

Having a government permanently entrenched in lies is beginning to have truly grotesque effects on public discourse.

For eight years, Pedro Sánchez has systematically used lies to wriggle out of any uncomfortable issue, evade responsibility for his own actions, and discredit anyone who says or does something not to his liking. This Sunday, the PSOE leader posted a message on his Twitter account stating the following:

“I am very much looking forward to the elections in Madrid in May, and the 2027 general election. And we are going to win them again.”

To "win again" an election one would have to have won the previous one, but the PSOE lost it. This is not a matter of opinion, nor does it depend on one's point of view: it is an objective fact. The PSOE finished second in the 2023 general election with 121 seats, trailing the Partido Popular (PP), which secured 137. If Sánchez remained in power, it was because he orchestrated a "coalition of losers," sparing no expense—spending our money, not his own—to secure the backing of separatist and far-left parties.

In the last regional elections in Madrid in 2023, the PSOE did not even finish in second place. It came in third, tied in seats with the far-left Más Madrid ticket but securing fewer votes. The PP won those elections with an absolute majority and 47.32% of the vote. Furthermore, of the 22 regional elections held in Spain since 2021, the PSOE has won only four: those in Asturias and Castilla-La Mancha in 2023, and those in Catalonia in 2021 and 2024. These are dismal results for a party that has been in power for eight years.

If Sánchez is capable of lying like this about events that took place only three years ago, what might he not be capable of doing to manipulate events from the more distant past—as he recently did when speaking about the Second Republic and claiming it was "the best of Spains"?

Of course, Sánchez’s words are no mere slip-up. Let us recall that a few weeks ago, the Supreme Court issued a preliminary injunction halting the so-called "Grandchildren Law"—an attempted electoral fraud through which Sánchez’s government is illegally handing out Spanish citizenship on a massive scale to people who have never set foot in Spain, in order to secure a large bloc of sympathetic votes for upcoming elections. Will Sánchez lie about future election results just as he lied today about past ones? What kind of political landscape is this incendiary politician preparing with such crude lies?
