During the Spanish Civil War, Catalonia was in the hands of the Republican side, being isolated from the rest of that side in April 1938.

In the fall of 1936, the heavy cruiser "Canarias" C-21, in the hands of the national side, had been operating off the coast of the province of Gerona, in a place where there were industries that manufactured weapons for the Republican side. Because of this, the local authorities feared a landing in the area of the town of Calella de Palafrugell, so they dedicated themselves to fortifying it at the beginning of 1937.

The fortification included the construction of two forts on the road that passed through Calella towards the sea, as well as a trench system and an air raid shelter. These fortifications did not see action during the war and are abandoned today. The trenches are quite drawn, but the forts remain in good condition, and the shelter is also accessible, except for one of its two exits, which has collapsed. The always interesting YouTube channel Aventuras Entresierras (to which I encourage you to subscribe) has just published an interesting video touring these fortifications (the video is in Spanish, you can activate the automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):

You can see some screenshots of the video here, as a preview. This is the entrance to the air raid shelter, shaped like an inverted letter F and very well built, although unfortunately a lot of garbage has accumulated inside. You can see its interior in the video.

Here we see the remains of some trenches from the Civil War. In the video you can see some of the loopholes of these trenches, which are preserved in good condition.

This is the second of the bunkers, whose image heads this post.
