Journalism is one of the professions with the most ideological leanings to the left, and some people don't even bother to hide it.
Yesterday, the Association of Parliamentary Journalists (APP) presented its 2024 awards. The awards are divided into 11 categories. Well: 11 of the 12 winners are left-wing or far-left parliamentarians. The Popular Party only won one "award" which is not really one, as it is entitled "Punishment of the press" and is a criticism of the winner. Significantly, Vox did not win any awards and only had 1 of the 44 nominees (José María Figaredo, in the category of most active parliamentarian), despite being the third party with the most seats.
To give you an idea, Podemos, which only has four seats, took home three awards, one of which was "Scourge of the Government," which went to Ione Belarra, an absurd award considering that this far-left party is an ally of Sánchez's government. In addition, four of the awards went to the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez's party, whose government is showering the media with hundreds of millions of euros in institutional advertising, the biggest waste of money any government has made in nearly five decades of democracy in Spain.
What has given rise to the most humorous comments on social media is, perhaps, the award given to the separatist Gabriel Rufián, from ERC, as "best speaker". After this, all that is missing is for them to give a prize for sincerity to a compulsive liar like Pedro Sánchez or a prize for dialogue to Óscar Puente, who has blocked half the country on his Twitter account. For years, the APP has been heavily criticized for its complacent attitude towards left-wing parties, but what has happened with these awards is already an exhibition of leftist sectarianism that can be described as ridiculous.
In any case, this explains why these journalists and their media are dedicated to eclipsing the parliamentary activity of Vox, the only party that distances itself from the progressive consensus in the Spanish Parliament. Finally, after these APP awards, traditional journalism in Spain will no longer be able to complain about its loss of credibility among many Spaniards. With such a demonstration of a lack of impartiality, what the APP journalists are doing is sending the message that their reports are as biased as their awards.
