In 2023 Taleb al-Abdulmohsen said he would kill 20 Germans at random

This morning, journalist Tim Röhn of the German newspaper Welt, published a screenshot of the email that a Saudi woman wanted to send to the police in Berlin on September 26, 2023. Röhn points out that the woman had previously contacted the German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) to alert them that Taleb al-Abdulmohsen wanted to kill 20 random German citizens.

This afternoon, BAMF acknowledged that it received such a complaint at the end of last year: "Since the Federal Office is not an investigative authority, the person who provided the information was directed directly to the responsible authorities, as is usual in such cases."

According to Röhn, when the Saudi woman wanted to report the incident to the Berlin police, she made a mistake and sent her complaint by email to the police in Berlin, a city of 7,500 inhabitants in New Jersey, United States. "The person claims that she then contacted the "real" Berlin police using the contact form with the warning", says Röhn, adding: "This claim cannot be verified due to the lack of a screenshot."

In 2013, Taleb al-Abdulmohsen was convicted of threatening to commit crimes.

On the other hand, this afternoon the German newspaper Spiegel has pointed out that "the alleged Magdeburg attacker was already convicted in 2013 for threatening to commit criminal offences" The news item states that on 4 September 2013 the district court in Rostock sentenced him to a fine of 90 days. The reason was a "disturbance of public peace by threatening to commit criminal offences". Spiegel also points out something curious about the detainee's stay in Germany:

"What is also striking is that Taleb A. had already arrived in Germany in 2006; he regularly entered the country with his passport and a visa to begin specialist training here after completing his medical studies. However, he did not apply for asylum until 2016, possibly because otherwise he would have had to leave the country."

That conviction did not influence the asylum he received in 2016

Spiegel adds: "At the hearing at the Halberstadt branch of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), he stated that he had turned away from Islam and was writing a book on why Islam as a religion has no foundation. Taleb A. started an online crowdfunding campaign for the book entitled “Creative Refutation of Islam,” but it found little support. The book was never published."

This German newspaper also notes that "Taleb A. also confirmed to the BAMF his threat of persecution in Saudi Arabia with an alleged incident at the Saudi embassy in Berlin. There he met the cultural attaché Abdulrahman A. in 2013. He told him that if Taleb A. returned to Saudi Arabia, he would be executed immediately. Taleb A. claims to have previously written to the cultural attaché that he no longer believes in Islam."

The most striking thing about his 2013 conviction is that, according to Spiegel, it had no influence on the granting of asylum: "Taleb A. was granted asylum under Article 16a of the Basic Law, the highest protection status. The 2013 conviction, which remained below the criminal record limit, was not grounds for exclusion. Apparently, in 2019 the BAMF carried out a regular asylum check, as was the case for all asylum applications from the large immigration wave of 2015 and 2016. The asylum was confirmed. In 2023, Taleb A. received a residence permit from the immigration authorities of the Saxony-Anhalt Salzland district of Bernburg."
