On December 19, a conference was held in Madrid, with Boris Cimorra, a Spanish writer and journalist born in Moscow, as the speaker.
Boris Cimorra was born in 1944. He is the son of an exiled Spaniard (Eusebio Cimorra) and a Ukrainian woman. He graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute and experienced the hardships of communism. He returned to Spain with his parents in 1977 and lived in Moscow again from 1985 to 2000, working as a representative of the Central Bank and helping to establish Spanish companies in Russia, living under Gorbachev and Yeltsin. Boris is a very critical man of Vladimir Putin and has expressed his confidence in Ukraine's victory against the current Russian invasion. He has written several books about his experiences in the USSR, such as "The Fall of the Soviet Empire" and "Radio Moscow. The Voice That Came from the Cold."
This conference was organized by the> Diego de Covarrubias Center (CDC), an organization that promotes classic liberalism from a Christian perspective. The event was presented by Alejandro Macarrón, a member of the CDC board of directors, and by the renowned economist Carlos Rodríguez Braun.
Boris Yeltsin was the first president of the Russian Federation after the dissolution of the Soviet Union on 25 December 1991. During his eight-year term, he promoted a series of reforms to liberalise the Russian economy, which was severely weakened after 74 years of socialist economy. While still president of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, Yeltsin recognised Ukraine’s independence on 2 December 1991. In addition, during his term, Yeltsin signed two important treaties respecting Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity: the Budapest Memorandum (1994) and the Russian-Ukrainian Treaty of Friendship (1997).
Unfortunately, at the time of his resignation on December 31, 1999, Yeltsin's great mistake was to entrust the Russian presidency to Vladimir Putin, until then Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.
This Friday, the Diego de Covarrubias Center published the video of Boris Cimorra's conference on Yeltsin, which you can watch in full here. During the question period, the speaker also spoke about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Putin's intentions and how Trump's presidency can influence the end of that war (the video is in Spanish, you can activate automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):
