Today, it's difficult to hide the fact that Spain is in the hands of an irresponsible and narcissistic politician who only cares about himself.
Yesterday, at the federal committee of his party, the PSOE, that politician, the socialist Pedro Sánchez, gave a lamentable speech in which, as he has done before and with insurmountable cynicism, he presented himself as a victim of the corruption scandals affecting his personal environment (starting with his wife and his brother), scandals that he has been covering up for some time through attacks on the media and the judges investigating them.
Sánchez's speech yesterday speaks volumes about what the final stages of his term will be like. He presented himself as a "captain" who refuses to abandon his ship, as if Spain were his personal yacht and he could do whatever he wanted with the country, including driving it onto a reef and running it aground and then blaming others.
The words of the socialist leader, received with serious faces by the members of his own federal executive, were the same old nonsense: an indecent self-promotion based on lies that denies the country's poor performance and omits all the negative data, from the exorbitant public debt to the record unemployment; attacks on the Israeli government, repeating the false accusation of "genocide" to inflame the relationship between the two countries and to hide the socialist corruption; and conspiracy theories to demonize their political rivals, speaking of a "far-right coalition" that "has powerful influence", while the PSOE colonizes all the institutions and tries to assault the judiciary to control the judges investigating their scandals. An absolute disgrace.
Likewise, Sánchez once again demonstrated his pathological liar status yesterday, repeating the 5% hoax: "Last week, Spain was the only country that told the United States and NATO that we were not going to increase defense spending to 5% of our Gross Domestic Product." A hoax that was already denied by NATO two weeks ago, a denial that left the image of the socialist leader in tatters, despite which he insists on the lie, perhaps adhering to the maxim of Nazi propaganda that stated that sIf a lie is repeated enough, it ends up becoming the truth.
Yesterday it became clear that Sánchez is like Zapatero: a miserable man willing to destroy coexistence between Spaniards, adopting all possible strategies to generate tension and confront citizens, with the sole aim of being able to remain one more day in the Moncloa Palace, enjoying the official car and the official plane, but above all exercising power in an abusive way, as if his personal desires were the supreme law of Spain, above its Constitution, that rule of coexistence that the Spanish people adopted by an overwhelming majority in a democratic referendum and that Sánchez, whose party lost the last general elections, tramples constantly and systematically.
Thus, Sánchez's final term will be as corrupt as, or more so than, the previous one, because if the socialist leader is bothered by corruption, it's because they've caught him red-handed. His systematic attack on judges gives an idea of his peculiar concept of the fight against corruption, as does his decision to reduce the punishment for the crime of embezzlement of public funds and grant amnesty to his separatist partners in exchange for their support, simply erasing their criminal record as payment for a political favor. A colossal act of corruption that Sánchez justified yesterday by calling it "the agenda of reunion and coexistence that we socialists have promoted in Catalonia".
In short, Sánchez will be even more toxic and deceitful than he has been up to now, because he has no alternative but to continue deceiving and fanaticizing his followers through lies, continue generating tension, and continue pitting the Spanish people against each other. Only in this way can he avoid what should be normal in a democracy: that a politician cornered by corruption scandals resigns, something that, judging by the things Sánchez says, has not crossed his mind at any time. He is a politician without shame and without morals, and those two things are precisely what lead others to resign when they are tainted by political corruption to a much lesser extent than Sánchez is currently.
Of course, this apprentice autocrat is not going to have millions of Spaniards as mere spectators of his attempt to demolish our democracy in order to stay and govern the rubble himself. As I said here last week, we Spaniards must respond in every possible area, doing everything in our power, within legal and peaceful channels, to stop Sánchez and his gang. This isn't the first time an unscrupulous individual has tried to take over our country, mistaking it for his personal estate, but our reaction must be strong enough to discourage him and others from trying to repeat something like this.
