For decades, the Western left has defined itself as a great defender of progress, tolerance, and human rights.
A terrorist dictatorship that claims to be on the right side of history
Reality is exposing this false narrative. We can see this in the case of the war in the Middle East. This week, Iranian dictator Ali Khamenei referred to the Sumud Global Flotilla, that crude propaganda operation promoted by the far left and Islamists against Israel, stating: "You are on the right side of history, whose pages are turning before us."
I had to double-check the source of Khamenei's message, posted by a verified account, to believe it was real. Iran is under an Islamist dictatorship that discriminates against women, hangs homosexuals, promotes terrorism, and imprisons, tortures, and executes those who call for democracy—human rights violations about which the Western far left remains ominously silent.
The far left has allowed itself to be dragged over to the side of this Islamist dictatorship
On the contrary, the Western far left vomits all its hatred against Israel, the only democratic country in the Middle East, the only one in that region where there is true religious freedom (it is the only country in the area where Jews, Christians, Druze and also Muslims live in total freedom), a country where homosexuals enjoy freedom and where there is an independent Justice that offers the same legal guarantees as in the democratic countries of Europe.
For years, when faced with the dilemma of which side to take, the Western far left has always preferred Iran's side, because its regime is openly anti-Western, just like communists in this part of the world. They both share this hatred of the culture in which democracy and respect for human rights were born.
This alliance between the most extreme Islamism and the far left also has the common denominator of anti-Semitism, a hatred of Jews cynically disguised as "anti-Zionism," as if this were more presentable. Zionism is the defense of the State of Israel: anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism directed against the only Jewish state. Islamism has been fueling this anti-Semitism long before the Nazis joined in; one need only recall the pogroms unleashed by Muslims in the Holy Land in the first quarter of the 20th century, such as that of Nabi Musa in 1920. Communist anti-Semitism began its journey as early as the time of Karl Marx, author of an antisemitic pamphlet that Hitler could have signed without hesitation.
A terrorist regime with which Sánchez has a better relationship than with Israel
Little by little, a growing segment of the left has allowed itself to be drawn into the fold of the Iranian dictatorship, driven by this pre-Semitic sentiment. This explains why Pedro Sánchez’s government met in June with six dictatorships, including Iran, but not with Israel, a country that the Spanish government (a coalition of socialists and communists) treats with absolute contempt while praising dictatorships as brutal as communist China, the totalitarian regime that perpetrated the greatest genocide of the 20th century.
Obviously, and in case anyone thinks otherwise, the rapprochement of a large part of the left towards Iran is not only a sign of antisemitism, although that common hatred of socialists, communists and Islamists is a powerful magnet between them. It is also a strategic alliance against the West, that is, against Judeo-Christian culture and democratic approaches, approaches that Pedro Sánchez's government is trampling on daily with its attacks on the rule of law, judges and the free media.
With his cynical message, Khamenei has exposed those who support him, with a terrorist regime whose soon-to-be overthrown and whose leaders are brought to trial. I am very much on the side of which side I am on: on the side of Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, a country that two years ago suffered an atrocious terrorist attack with purely diabolical characteristics, a country that is now defamed and slandered by the anti-Semitic left because it refused to allow itself to be exterminated. Of course, you will never see me on the side of the Iranian dictatorship and its Western partners.
