A socialist mayor bans a concert by a Jewish singer who rejected Hamas

The anti-Semitism of much of the left and its attacks on freedom are beginning to form an increasingly scandalous cocktail.

Today we have a new example in the Brussels region, which is the capital of Belgium and the administrative center of the European Union. Charles Spapens, mayor of Vorst (one of the 19 municipalities in that region), has banned a concert by the American heavy metal band Disturbed, which was scheduled for October 15 as part of the Vorst Nationaal festival. Spapens argued the following: "Given the unfavorable assessment by the police and the unique geographical location of the venue, it was my duty to make this decision."

This controversial decision comes after a media campaign against Disturbed frontman David Draiman for showing his rejection of Hamas terrorists by signing an Israeli Army projectile with the phrase "Fuck Hamas." Some internet users had criticized Draiman's stance against the Islamist criminal group and his support for Israel following the anti-Semitic massacre of October 7, 2023, the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.

It just so happens that Draiman is Jewish and a descendant of Holocaust survivors. In fact, Distubed has a song, "Never Again," dedicated to the Holocaust and deniers. It can be heard here in a music video that includes footage from a 2023 concert by the band in Tel Aviv:

One might wonder what criteria will be followed from now on when banning events: Will every concert that is not to the liking of the far left and Islamists be banned, for fear of violent reprisals? Will any concert by an artist who has condemned communism, discriminatory treatment of women in Islamic countries, or the hanging of homosexuals in Iran also be banned? Furthermore, would that socialist mayor have banned that concert if the singer were a socialist threatened by the far right?

In the end, these bans falsely appealing to security are always imposed by the same people, the leaders of an intolerant left who use the violence of the far left and Islamism to degrade our freedoms and cancel all those they don't like. What Charles Spapens has done is a decision worthy of an anti-democrat, which brings Belgium a little closer to the lack of freedom that exists in countries with a Muslim majority. How long will it take them to ban music itself so as not to upset the most radical Islamists?
