Vigo, a city where pigeons have a taste for elegance when sleeping

I live in a city where pigeons have good taste and class. Given the choice, they choose elegant places to rest.

On October 2nd, I was standing with my camera on Policarpo Sanz Street in the city center, waiting for the Police Day parade to start. Suddenly, I saw a pigeon sleeping on a building on the southern facade of the street. It's been a while since I've done artistic photography, so I saw an opportunity in that little bird.

I always find it funny to watch pigeons sleep. They find a quiet spot and curl up their necks, turning into a peaceful ball of feathers. Sometimes we see them like this on my balcony, a sign that we must not be too bothersome neighbors for them.

Then I realized this sleeping pigeon was accompanied. There were two others nearby, also asleep, on the ledge of the nearest window. It was already after 12:00 noon. Perhaps the pigeons had been out on a bender the night before and were hungover.

Turning the lens of my camera I then saw that there were five pigeons on the same floor. They were all sleeping on the window ledges, motionless, as if they were part of those ancient ornaments.

Then I scanned the upper floors and adjacent buildings with my lens. There were no pigeons on them. Those five sleepyheads went to choose the floor with the most elegant cornices. The building on the right is made of stone, but it's not as pretty, and the Banco Santander building is hideous. Apparently, in Vigo we have pigeons with a taste for elegance when sleeping. Even if the floor is lower and noisier for them, they prefer a well-decorated cornice to a window that looks dull and tasteless.
