Years ago, when a person could not distinguish their desires from reality, it was said that this was due to a mental disorder.
That ended because for a long time there have been activists determined to make reality questionable and to transform a person's desires into rights —one of the rotten fruits of a relativism that is degrading the foundations of democratic societies. The far-left found in this activism a way out of its downfall in 1989, the year the fall of communism began in Europe. Unable to undermine liberal democracies through class struggle, the far-left opted to degrade our society by making reality no longer matter.
George Orwell had already warned about this strategy in his famous novel "1984": if you can convince a society to deny the obvious, then you can do with it whatever you want. It is an old dream of totalitarians (it was cherished by both communism and nazism), but this time applied in democratic countries.
The first step was to convince many people that if a man identifies as a woman, then he should be recognized as a woman (and vice versa), and anyone who says otherwise should be persecuted, fined, and even imprisoned on charges of "transphobia." It was no longer a matter of criminalizing an opinion, but rather the assertion of an evidence. Several democratic countries fell under this totalitarian trend. In Spain, the far-left Podemos party, with the support of the PSOE, managed to open women's changing rooms and bathrooms to men with a "Trans Law" that embodied the most extremist tenets of the aberrant gender ideology, formulated by far-left activists to destroy the family, an institution denounced by Marxism since its origins.
Some might think things couldn't get any worse. They're wrong. If people are forced to claim that a man is a woman, simply because he identifies as a woman, it's not hard to see how things will end. Why not force people to claim that a man is a boy if he identifies as such? Why not mandate that a 20-year-old who claims to be an 80-year-old be paid a retirement pension? And if a Moroccan identifies as Spanish, why not grant him the right to reside in Spain and vote in Spanish elections? If reality no longer matters in determining sex, why should it matter in determining age or nationality?
These days the media is paying attention to the so-called therian movement, people who identify as animals of various species and behave as such. With what intellectual authority can this nonsense now be rejected by the political parties that threatened us with reprisals for affirming biology in determining a person's sex? If biology no longer determines sex, why should it determine species?
It's high time to put a stop to this madness. A democratic society must not be dragged down by relativism, because that is the most direct path to tyranny. If even reality and biology are questionable, then so are human rights. If we don't want to end up in a society where certain people force others to share their delusions, with the terrible consequences that would entail what is needed is to start dismantling all the absurdities established by this toxic ideology to turn us into a manipulable flock. Faced with this irrational drift, there is a biblical quote that takes on greater importance than ever and that we must reclaim without hesitation: "the truth will set you free."
