An 11-minute tour of Romania's beautiful landscapes from a bird's-eye view

One of the things I value most about the multimedia portal YouTube is the possibility of seeing places I've never been to.

I not only value that, but also that this multimedia content allows me to change my perception of some of these places. Something like that is happening to me with Japan, a country I've always found difficult to understand. Today something similar happened with Romania, an Eastern European country that, along with its neighbor and sister nation Moldova, is the easternmost of those with languages ​​derived from Latin.

Yesterday, the YouTube channel Explore The World 4K published a magnificent video that takes you on an 11-minute bird's-eye view of Romania. I must admit I was incredibly surprised by what I saw, because I hadn't imagined it like this: a country with such beautiful landscapes and spectacular castles. Romania is marked by emigration: 4.5 million Romanians live outside their country, an enormous number for a country with 18.8 million inhabitants. I can imagine what they must feel being so far from such a beautiful land.

Here are some screenshots from this beautiful video, as a preview. The image at the top of this page shows a landscape of the Carpathian Mountains, which cover a large part of Romania. Below, we can see another part of this mountain range: the beautiful Lake Bâlea, in the Făgăraș Mountains, in the Southern Carpathians.

A beautiful view of the city of Sighișoara, a town of 32,000 inhabitants in the world-famous region of Transylvania. Vlad Tepes, also known as Vlad the Impaler, was born in this city. He was a 15th-century prince of Wallachia and is considered a hero in Romania for his fight against the Turks. His story inspired the Irish writer Bram Stoker to write his famous novel "Dracula" (1897).

The city of Iași, one of the most populated cities in the country. It was the capital of the Principality of Moldavia between 1564 and 1859 and the capital of the Kingdom of Romania between 1916 and 1918. What we see in the center is the Palace of Culture, a beautiful and enormous neo-Gothic building inaugurated in 1926 by King Ferdinand I of Romania.
