A review of 'The End of Oak Street', a science fiction film set in 1982

This week I had the opportunity to see an atypical film released this Friday, titled "The End of Oak Street".

The film was produced by J.J. Abrams and has certain similarities to two of his films that I liked the most: "Cloverfield" (2008) and especially "Super 8" (2011). The director is David Robert Mitchell, author of one of the most original horror films I've seen in recent years: "It Follows" (2014). This information offered a good incentive to go see it, in addition to a very good trailer.

The cast is also a draw, with Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor in the lead roles, playing a troubled couple who find themselves embroiled in a rather strange situation in their neighborhood. I thought I was going to see a typical summer movie, simply entertaining and nothing more, but to be honest, it surprised me. It's better than I expected and better than some reviews suggested. The film is a bit slow at the beginning, but it picks up pace until it becomes thrilling.

I haven't mentioned the plot, and I'm not going to. I'll just say that the film has a very similar atmosphere to "Super 8," which was set in 1979. In this case, the events take place in 1982, with a very well-achieved atmosphere. I think it's best to go see the film without knowing anything else. I think it's worth seeing, but if you go, it's best to go without small children (some scenes are quite intense). Here's the trailer:
