The fire that broke out last night in the frigate "Santa María" of the Spanish Navy has caused damage to one of its hangars, the starboard one.

The Foro Naval Association has published four images of the destruction in its Facebook page earlier this afternoon. From Foro Naval they also point out that "despite the spectacular nature of the fire, in principle no structural or vital damage can be seen. In fact, there are already rumors that repair work can be carried out in a month or so."

"The fire was contained and limited in the starboard hangar thanks to the magnificent work of the frigate's internal security team and the firefighters from the rota naval base", they point out from Foro Naval, and add: "There is talk that the fire could have been caused by an electrical failure in a "Japanese" (cargo network)".

Fortunately, and as reported by the Ministry of Defense, "the quick reaction of the frigate's personnel on board has managed to control the fire, avoiding further damage. In compliance with the established protocol, the ship has received the assistance of media from the Rota Naval Base and other ships that were in the port."

At the moment, and due to the damage suffered by the fire, the frigate has had to delay its incorporation into Operation Atalanta. She was scheduled to set sail this Sunday, October 8, to join that mission.

We must congratulate the personnel of the Spanish Navy and the US Navy who have collaborated in the extinction of this fire, since their rapid intervention has prevented the ship from suffering major damage. Hopefully she can be repaired in a short time and we will see her active again soon.
