Today there are 178 cities in 56 countries that have their own metro networks. The first of them was inaugurated on January 10, 1863.

London was the city in which the first underground network was built, which then operated with steam trains. Today, the London Underground has 272 active stations and 40 abandoned stations, both underground and above ground. This abandoned part is an ideal place to shoot movies, such as "Creep" (2004), starring the German actress Franka Potente, and "The Escapist" (2008).

Plus, those abandoned stations are a magnet for urban explorers. Precisely, a few days ago the channel Urbandoned published a video recorded in 2019 going through two lines Abandoned London Underground Network:

You can see here some screenshots of the video as a preview. One of the lines seen in the video still has light, despite having been closed for many years.

Sign of Union Street, a station that never existed. It is actually an underground tram station, Holborn, also known as Great Queen Street station. It was inaugurated in 1906 and closed in 1952. The "Union Street" sign represents a fictitious station from the aforementioned film "The Escapist" (2008). After shooting the film, part of the sets were left there.

What looks like an old service tunnel, still lit. The electricity supply bill for the London Underground network must be spectacular, with illuminated rooms abandoned for decades.
