Pedro Sánchez took 4 days to order a large military deployment and justified it by lying

Four days. That is how long Pedro Sánchez has waited to announce a large deployment of the Armed Forces in response to the cold snap.

The disaster occurred on Tuesday, October 29 and that same night the terrible consequences of that cold drop were already known. However, the Sánchez government has refused to declare a national emergency, inexplicably delaying the deployment of the Army in the affected areas. A delay that can only be interpreted as serious negligence that may have cost many human lives.

Sanchez lies and blames Mazón for the delay in military deployment

This afternoon, Sánchez appeared at a press conference in which he blamed the Valencian government for the lack of military deployment until today, claiming that Carlos Mazón did not make that request until today. This is a lie: it has been two days since Mazón asked the government for "the available troops" of the Army, Navy and Air Force, while indignation grew among Spaniards over the government's absurd delay in ordering this deployment.

That message from Mazón was published at 17:16 CET. Two hours later, the Ministry of Defense announced the deployment of 500 more soldiers, a ridiculous figure.

The law that enables the government to take command

Let us also keep in mind that the National Security Law enables in its Article 23.2 the government to assume command in a situation like this, which "due to the severity of its effects and the dimension, urgency and transversality of the measures for its resolution, requires reinforced coordination of the competent authorities." The government evades its responsibility for purely political reasons, to place all responsibility on a regional administration and even blame it for the scarce military deployment so far, when the Armed Forces are the exclusive competence of the government, as indicated in Article 149 of the Constitution.

Abascal blames Sánchez for “not having activated all the resources of the State”

Following Sánchez's press conference, Vox president Santiago Abascal denounced that "Sánchez is the person primarily responsible for not having activated all of the State's resources when lives could still be saved". The leader of Spain's third most voted party has pointed out that Sánchez "has come out to lie, as always" and described the Prime Minister's statement as "unworthy" and "infamous".

Abascal has accused Sánchez of "only worrying about raising taxes and attacking Spanish National Television just when the people of Valencia were abandoned, living with corpses and looters." The leader of Vox has pointed out that "this is not just a natural disaster: this is what Sánchez has brought to politics." In addition, he has demanded "the total deployment of the Army throughout the area" and also support for the volunteers "who are responding in a way that the administrations have not done." He also added that later on "we will demand political, civil and criminal responsibility from those responsible for this chaos."
