Donald Trump is not wasting any time and seems determined to dismantle Joe Biden's ideological agenda in record time.
Trump grants pardon to 23 pro-lifers convicted of peaceful protests
On Thursday, the 47th president of the United States signed a new measure that deserves praise from the pro-life movement: the presidential pardon for 23 pro-life advocates convicted of speaking out against abortion near centers where unborn babies are killed. These individuals were convicted under the so-called FACE Act, called "Freedom of Access to Entrances to Clinics and Places of Worship", promulgated by Bill Clinton in 1994 to prevent any protest in front of abortion centers, equating them with religious temples, equating the exercise of religious freedom with the act of killing the most innocent and defenseless.
This is a law that the Biden administration used in an openly sectarian way to persecute pro-lifers for committing mere crimes of opinion, something typical of a dictatorship. This is predictable, given Biden's pro-abortion activism and that of practically the entire Democratic Party, which has gone so far as to defend infanticide against unborn children who survive an abortion.
Biden persecuted peaceful pro-lifers and ignored 436 violent attacks on churches
Peter Breen, executive vice president of the Thomas More Society, has denounced that “Biden’s prosecutors almost entirely ignored the firebombing and vandalism of hundreds of pro-life churches and pregnancy centers" (as The Washington Stand reported in December, there were 436 attacks on churches in the US in 2023, and not a single prosecution for them). At the same time, Breen notes, those prosecutors "viciously pursued pro-life Americans, obtaining convictions against them under the federal ‘FACE Act’” for engaging in "mere peaceable civil disobedience, in the heralded tradition of the American Civil Rights activists."
A dictatorial attitude that even scandalized the promoters of that law
Biden's radically skewed use of the law to persecute pro-lifers has sparked outrage even among the law's proponents, as the LifeNews website LifeNews noted yesterday:
Such prosecutions were never supposed to take place, according to the bill’s authors. During debate over the 1994 act, the late Senator Ted Kennedy reassured voters that, “if an individual does violate this law for the first time, it is not a felony.”
As a defender of life and the rule of law, I applaud this measure by Donald Trump and hope that the FACE law is repealed by this administration, so that no other federal government can fall into the temptation of using it to persecute the mere exercise of freedom of expression by peaceful means. What Biden did was criminalize the defense of life while promoting the horrendous crime of abortion. This is intolerable in any civilized country and Biden should be held accountable for it.
