A good article about the Russian invasion of Ukraine by Spanish General Agustín Rosety

We live in very strange times and in situations like this it is not a bad idea to have a good moral compass at hand so as not to lose our way.

A Spanish Admiral gives the keys that shatter the pro-Russian discourse on Ukraine
Patriotism and the Russian invasion: Do you ask of Ukraine what you would not accept for your country?

Last Saturday, the newspaper El Debate published a very good article by Brigadier General of the Marine Corps (R) Agustín Rosety Fernández de Castro, a man whom I respect and appreciate. The article, titled "President Trump's post-truth", began with the following words:

"Last Tuesday, the 18th, we woke up to a disturbing statement from Donald Trump, if there is anything that can surprise us at this point: "They should never have started it. They should have made a deal." He is referring to the war in Ukraine and the country attacked by Vladimir Putin's "special military operation." Is the new tenant of the White House insinuating that the Ukrainian government should have surrendered then? Is he demanding that it do so now? But what disconcerts me is that he resorts to an instrument so typical of the woke universe as is post-truth. Hence my bewilderment and the particular bitterness of the coffee I had for breakfast that morning."

I recommend that you read the full article. You can do so at this link.

Today, through my friend Francisco José Contreras, I learned that General Rosety has closed his Twitter account, fed up with receiving insults from fanatics. At 77 years old, this great man dedicated more than four decades of his life to serving Spain in the Navy. He is a full member of the Royal Hispano-American Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters and a knight of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Between 2019 and 2023 he was a national deputy for Vox.

At his age and with his record of service to Spain, General Rosety does not deserve this. Neither he nor anyone else. Some people of different ideologies have become accustomed to using insults as their only argument, not only to respond to those who do not share their opinion, but also to try to silence them. We live in a society that has normalized the so-called "cancel culture", which consists of decreeing the civil death of certain people for defending absolutely legitimate and democratic opinions that are not to the liking of some. Some people think it is wrong when their rivals do it, but in the end they end up doing the same.

From here I would like to convey my support and respect to General Rosety. I hope to continue reading him in El Debate, and if one day he is left without a forum from which to write, I will always be happy to publish what he writes on this blog.
