In times plagued by lies, manipulations and fallacies, it is necessary to arm ourselves with truths, reason and good arguments..
The Russian invasion of Ukraine is not only taking place in the cities and fields of that country, but also in the media and social networks of the West, which is where Russian propaganda tries to weaken us and, in doing so, reduce support for the invaded country. I have been recommending for some time the articles of Admiral (R) Juan Rodríguez Garat in the newspaper El Debate, former Admiral of the Fleet (ALFLOT) of the Spanish Navy who went into reserve in 2018. The article he signs today is masterful, although it is almost difficult to find it on the front page of that newspaper (I do not understand why they have a first-rate collaborator like this one and do not highlight his articles more).
This Admiral today sets out the possible consequences of Trump's betrayal of Ukraine and what we Europeans can do to compensate for the foreseeable withdrawal of US military aid to that country. His article is the antithesis of the crude pacifist slogans coined in Moscow for Russian propagandists to propagate and a bunch of useful idiots to help spread. I particularly liked the final paragraph, because it indicates the part that falls to all of us:
"Besides money, and I would almost say above money, Ukraine needs hope. Can we, the citizens of Europe, give it hope? I think we can, but we must guard against the disinformation campaigns that have managed to contaminate even the White House. While so many Ukrainians pay with their blood for their fight for freedom, we only have to make a small effort: to remember that pessimism is our enemy's best weapon."
You can read the full article by clicking here (the text is in Spanish, you can read an automatic translation here).
It is significant to see that Admiral Garat's articles are always highly commented on, but sadly what is most read in the comments section are insults and other personal disqualifications of the author, and very few arguments. This Spanish military man has been offering very solid arguments for some time and that is what can do the most damage to Russia in the field of information, which, I repeat, is where a large part of this war is being fought.
Obviously, they are not seeking to counter his arguments rationally (they have a hard time), but to discredit and silence him so that some can continue to poison public opinion without any opposition. Those of us who support Ukraine must decide what we should do, whether to let Russia and its useful idiots win this information battle due to the lack of opposition, or to fight the battle on this ground as well, where the future of the West is at stake.
