The Flag oath for civilians in the 'Elcano' in Uruguay with Leonor as flag bearer

The training ship "Juan Sebastián de Elcano" of the Spanish Navy has arrived in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.

This stopover is one of those planned for the 17th Training Cruise of this ship, which set sail from Cadiz on January 11 and which has the participation of HRH Princess of Asturias Leonor de Borbón.

As is customary on the "Elcano" trips abroad, a swearing-in ceremony for civilian personnel was held in Montevideo with Spanish residents in Uruguay. The participants in this swearing-in ceremony were able to kiss the Spanish flag to seal their commitment to the country in a very special way, since Princess Leonor was the flag bearer at this event.

It so happens that the then Prince of Asturias Felipe de Borbón, current King of Spain Felipe VI, was the flag bearer at a flag swearing ceremony in Montevideo in 1987, when he made his training cruise as a midshipman during his training process as an officer of the Spanish Navy at the Naval Military School of Marín.

The swearing-in ceremony in Montevideo was attended by the Spanish Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, and the Chief of the Defense Staff (JEMAD), Admiral General Teodoro Esteban López Calderón.
