A manoeuvre with Leopard 2 tanks can be anything but a quiet and peaceful experience in the middle of a rural area.

Even in the depths of winter, German Army armoured units exercise to stay sharp for the defence of their country. That training includes firing live ammunition in wooded areas, as seen in this image of exercises by Panzerlehrbataillon 93 of Panzerlehrbrigade 9 in Munster, Lower Saxony, in January.

The Panzertruppenschule, the German Army's training school for officers and non-commissioned officers of armored units, is located in this German town. In addition to the firing of the 120 mm L/55 cannons of the Leopard 2, the maneuvers also include the launching of smoke grenades as a concealment maneuver for these tanks, as we can see in the following image.

This Saturday, Klaus Schröder published a video of exercises by Panzerlehrbataillon 93 with Leopard 2 tanks. The sound of the L/55 guns firing and the smoke generated by the smoke grenades attracted the curiosity of some forest dwellers: a pack of wolves had snuck onto the training ground.

In the video, Schröder managed to capture one of these wolves, which seemed to be carrying out a reconnaissance mission to check what all the fuss was about in the German forests in the middle of winter.

Wolves are fierce animals, but it is clear that they know that they are no match for enormous 62-ton leopards... Anyway, a curious anecdote that these soldiers will one day tell their grandchildren.
